The Italians say that it's good luck for a bird to poop on you; the Little Italians such as ourselves know that when mulberries are in season, good luck getting that purple stain out. Good thing this dress is such a dark blue already.

This is the Victory Patterns Simone Dress, sewn up in Liberty of London tana lawn. The main fabric, Passion Rose A, is from their Summer 2016 collection, which included many large prints that are unusual for Liberty and they're gorgeous. For the contrast yoke I fell in love with the way Felix and Isabelle softened the boldness of the big floral, and created a really funky mix of prints.

I'm not sure if you can tell, but I left off the zipper! I basted the dress sides together first to make sure it would still fit, and I am quite pleased that I didn't have to mess around with a zipper.

Also, I left off that tongue thing that hangs out of the neckline.

I didn't really make any fit alterations on this. I did, however, double up the back yoke (since I had the extra fabric anyway), so that I could finish the back openings with self fabric rather than bias tape. I made piping and binding out of the Emerald Green cotton that coordinates so well with the prints.

Here you can see the three fabrics pretty well together:

I'm not sure I'm in love with the dramatic dip of the hemline. I think if I were to make this again, I would even them out a little (but not totally). Or maybe I'm just not used to my dresses tickling my calves.

I said to my photographer, "I think this dress kind of makes me look pregnant. Can you get a picture of that?"

It doesn't, I just look like a fool. Although I've got plenty of room for a big meal! Also, those cuts are my legs are actually rope burns from my dog's retractable leash. Never again!

Fun fact : In our experience, Liberty of London doesn't really fade in the wash. It does, in our experience, fade when exposed to direct sunlight every day in the summer. (Our mannequin has been sunbathing on our patio every day, wearing this dress)
