We are available to teach private sewing lessons Tuesday - Friday, 11am - 6pm. Occasionally we are available outside of those hours, so it doesn't hurt to ask!
Sewing lessons are $25 / hour. Minimum age is 8 years old - or at least have the ability to read, measure and use scissors well. We have Bernina sewing machines that you are welcome to use, or you may bring in your own machine.
Lessons are student-driven and usually project-based; we do not have a curriculum. Some examples of lessons are :
- get to know your machine -- threading the machine, different stitches and their uses, make a pin cushion
- make a simple project -- tote bag, apron, zipper pouch
work through a sewing pattern -- we suggest purchasing a sewing pattern, fabric, and notions and then we can work through it together
(please don't pick anything complicated if you're new to sewing -- we would be happy to offer suggestions!) It's like cooking - where you work through a simple recipe first and then progress to more difficult things.
- hand embroidery or cross stitch
We can also help with fitting, answer questions, or demonstrate (most) techniques that you are struggling with.
