This Guatemalan cloth was made by hand by Mayan villagers on a foot or treadle loom. Villiagers still wear traditional clothing of an embroidered huipil top and corte skirt made from woven cloth such as this.
Fabric was purchased at a famous market in Chichicastenango, a town in the Guatemalan highlands.
All fabrics are 36" wide. Bands/ikat run along the entire length of the bolt of fabric and parallel to the selvage.
Care: first wash with a cup of vinegar to help remove any excess color and set the dye.
